Transgender Day of Remembrance 2025

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this solemn day, we remember the lives of our transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming kin taken by murder or violence, and those lost to suicide. The website for Trans Lives Matter lists 47 such deaths in the US since last year’s Transgender Day of Remembrance, and 298 worldwide. That means over 15% of all violent deaths of transgender people occur in our country, a shameful and shocking reality. As Catholics, we have a special duty to honor the dignity and value of all lives, and to do more to end the discriminatory climate that makes such violence acceptable. May our remembrance spur us to action.
