Serving as President or Vice President of DignityUSA

This outlines the responsibilities, duties and commitments needed of candidates when they submit a nomination to serve as President or Vice President.

The President and Vice President:


• Run for office as a slate with gender diversity.
• Serve a term of office for two years; Can be re-elected as outlined in the Bylaws.
• Nominate candidates for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer for election by the Board of Directors;
• Serve as members of the Executive Committee and DignityUSA Board of Directors, the governing body of the organization; and
Perform the responsibilities and commitments found in the document Serving on the DignityUSA Board which is posted on the DignityUSA website

Duties of the President

The responsibilities of the President, who is member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, are  
• Serve as Chair of the Board of Directors
• Convene regular and special meetings of the Board of Directors
• Chair Executive Committee and Board meetings; develop meeting agendas in coordination with the Secretary, Executive Director and Executive Committee
• Lead the development and execution of strategic plan
• Report with the Officers and Executive Director to members on the state of DignityUSA
• Supervise the Executive Director with guidance from the Board Officers and Directors
• Convene and serve as Chair of Executive Committee meetings
• Set the agenda for Executive Committee meetings
• Serve as a legal representative of the organization
• Support the development of press releases and official communications
• Signatory on checks
• Monitor email addressed to the president
• Sign letters (congratulatory, acknowledgments, official correspondence, etc.)

Duties of the Vice-President

The Vice President, who is member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, shall:  
• Co-share with the President the overall leadership and functioning of the Board of Directors and the organization.
• Perform duties as requested by the President
• Automatically assume the office of President in the case of a temporary or permanent vacancy of the office of the President
• Can be a signatory on checks
• Enters staff payroll and manages benefits systems
• Support the activities of the Board including leadership of Board Committees.
