Dignity/Boston held a Memorial Service for longtime member Larry Collopy on Saturday May 2 2015. Larry joined Dignity in March of 1977. He belonged to the newly formed chapter of Merrimack Valley in 1978 and transferred to Dignity/Boston when the chapter closed. Membership in Dignity was extremely important to Larry.

During the days when DignityUSA was governed by the House of Delegates and we were part of Region I Larry made sure he was aware of what the issues were and how Merrimack Valley should vote. Larry was proud to serve as a delegate. He enjoyed going to the conventions and seeing friends from other chapters.

Larry was very generous especially with his gift of music. He was a longtime member of the Boston Gay Mens Chorus. Members of the Chorus participated in the memorial by singing two of Larrys favorite songs. Not only did Larry like to sing but he also wrote music. He composed the Mass parts for his mothers funeral Mass. Dignity/Boston choir members joined the parish choir to sing at her funeral. That memory always touched Larry deeply. When friends had their commitment ceremony he penned a vocal arrangement to Stand Up Friends. as his gift to them. That song using his arrangement was sung at his service.

Larry never met a stranger. He would attend coffee hour after liturgy and greet any new people in attendance. He was friendly and big hearted.

May he rest in peace.
