By Marie Sweeney DignityUSA Board Member

Each year DignityUSA has an election to the board of directors to renew our leadership and to reflect more closely our diverse and talented community. Have you ever considered yourself for this kind of involvement? More importantly should you? Our board is a working board but its not like a second job. We commit to an average of two-three hours weekly to keep the organization focused on our mission:

DignityUSA works for respect and justice for people of all sexual orientations genders and gender identities especially gay lesbian bisexual transgendered and intersex persons in the Catholic Church and the world through education advocacy and support.

Some of our focus includes providing for direction and support of our three paid staff assuming responsibility for good stewardship of resources offering active support to local Dignity communities and keeping ourselves available for the needs of those requesting our support. Youve undoubtedly read in the Advent letter of all the expansive needs our community is addressing. The opportunity to provide active support as these issues unfold is so motivating! Were hoping youll come forward if youre ready for the chance of a lifetime to make a difference.

In this season of the Magi bringing gifts the gifts that helped express donation of their talents and treasure take a moment to see if now is the time to offer your unique presence to our faith community leadership. If youre gifted by being trans or gifted with business skills how might your presence make a difference to our DignityUSA leadership? If you live west of Wisconsin or south of Indianapolis how might the gift of your world view shaped by geography and culture bring a much needed presence to our work? Each of us is already a gift simply by being who we are. How might you bring a unique present to our community? If you have a nagging that now might be your time send a quick Im thinking about it to <a href=mailto:maries@dignityusa.org?subject=I'm%20thinking%20about%20it>Marie Sweeney. The adventure awaits!!
