DignityUSA Prays for Productive Dialogue within Catholic Church

Boston MA. August 10 2012. As members of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) conclude their annual meeting and their discernment about how to respond to the Vatican’s expression of concern about the organization DignityUSA affirms its support for LCWR and its members.

“As LCWR has met in St. Louis Missouri members of DignityUSA across the country have joined other Catholics in prayer and vigil in solidarity with the Sisters” said Marianne Duddy-Burke DignityUSA’s Executive Director. “Lesbian gay bisexual and transgender Catholics like most Catholics can bear witness to the great variety of ministries provided by nuns and have found inspiration for our own persistence in faith from them.

“We pledge ongoing support and prayer as LCWR continues to seek dialogue with Church leaders” said Duddy-Burke. “We urge Church leaders to commit to listen to the experience of women religious who often work among the most marginalized and neediest of God’s people those most in need of Christian ministry. We pray that this may become a moment of opportunity and that this process leads to more openness greater understanding and increased respect for one another within our Church.”
