Staff members of DignityUSA (Executive Director Marianne Duddy-Burke Associate Director Jim Smith Operations Manager Peggy Burns and Technology Services Manager Logan Bear) participated in a two day retreat on Tuesday and Wednesday June 3-4 2014 in Knoxville Tennessee facilitated by Monique Meadows. The staff has a conference call every other week via webinar but this is the first time we have met face-to-face since we’ve all gone to full-time DignityUSA service.

Tuesday morning we concentrated on team dynamics: what type of worker we each are and how we work with others who may have different styles. It was an interesting exercise and made us see how different and the same we are. Monique also showed us a model for team performance. Questions included “Why am I here? What are we doing? and How do we continue?” The model is something that the staff will continue to look at and use in order to better serve DignityUSA.

Wednesday we set out to do a work plan based on the Strategic Plan presented at the 2013 Convention. We looked at all the goals and tackled one that we felt needed to be looked at right away. Tasks were given dates set and the staff is ready to work.

It was a good two days and we are hoping to be able to do more of this type of meeting. We left feeling we knew our co-workers better and had more knowledge of what they do and how they work.
