The Marriage Marcher

A Guest Opinion Piece by Brian Cahill

Ignoring the pleas of major political and religious leaders to cancel his attendance, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone was the featured speaker at the recent March For Marriage on June 19th in Washington D.C.  Cordileone made his same, flawed and failed argument against civil gay marriage. White House Forum on Global LGBT Human Rights

by Marianne Duddy-Burke

On June 24, 2014, the White House sponsored its first Forum on Global LGBT Human Rights, and I was honored to represent DignityUSA in that gathering. The Forum brought together approximately 275 LGBT leaders from the fields of human rights, business, faith, and law, Obama administration officials, U.S. diplomatic staff, ambassadors from several mostly northern European countries, and some noted LGBT activists from Uganda, Nigeria, Russia, and China. The goal was to hear updates on the Administration’s LGBT rights priorities, and to provide concrete suggestions on how to further address this issue, which has been made central in U.S. diplomacy and foreign investment.

Keynote Speaker for the 2015 Convention is Announced

DignityUSA's 22nd Biennial Convention to be held in Seattle on July 2-5, 2015 is just one year away. The theme of the Convention is "God's Love: Enduring as the Mountains, Endless as the Sea." When we gathered last year in Minneapolis, our theme was "Let Justice Roll Like a River," and we looked at our call to social justice. In Seattle we will look at how God's Love sustains us and grounds us in our advocacy work.

Successful Women’s Retreat

Holy, Wholly, Holy! was the theme of the third DignityUSA-sponsored women’s retreat. DignityUSA partnered with the Women’s Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual (WATER) to gather women at the Conference and Retreat Center at Bon Secours in Marriottsville, Maryland. Thirty-one women gathered at the event on Friday, June 13. Eucharist, song, prayer, dance, reflection and community were all part of a three-day weekend. Honour Maddock (Long Island, New York), was the mistress of ceremonies at this idyllic setting.
