Dignity/Washington and Dignity/NoVA Raise Over $2,400 for the 2012 Annual DC AIDS Walk

The Dignity/Washington and Dignity/Northern Virginia chapters raised $2,473 for the annual DC AIDS Walk, held Saturday, October 27, to benefit Whitman-Walker Health.

This year’s team ran in memory of Jim DePersis, a long-time Dignity/Washington member who for many years organized the Dignity/Washington AIDS Walk Team. Special thanks go out to Allen Rose, former Dignity/Washington President, and David Lamdin of Dignity/Northern Virginia for their leadership in guiding this year’s efforts.

Gay Catholic Leaders Applaud Priest’s Removal from Ministry, Repeat Calls for Dialogue with Church Leaders

March 10, 2012. DignityUSA and Dignity/Washington, DC today applauded the Archdiocese of Washington, DC for suspending Father Marcel Guarnizo from all ministry within the Archdiocese. In a letter to priests, Vicar General Barry C. Knestout cited “intimidating behavior toward parish staff and others that is incompatible with proper priestly ministry” as the reason for the suspension. Father Guarnizo recently refused Communion to Barbara Johnson during her mother’s funeral because she is a lesbian.

Dignity/Washington, DC President Testifies on Maryland Marriage Equality Bill

Allen Rose, President of Dignity/Washington, DC, the largest Chapter of DignityUSA,  testified on the Maryland Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012 on February 10, 2012. Below is a transcript of his testimony.

Thank you, Chairman Vallario, Chairman Hammen and the members of your respective committees, for the opportunity to testify today in support of The Civil Marriage Protection Act of  2012.  This legislation is right and just.
