As a Catholic justice-seeking organization, DignityUSA recently issued a statement condemning the systemic racism, oppression and inequality that people of color have experienced for generations in this country. It is not enough, however, to simply condemn racism; we must work to extinguish racism and become actively anti-racist. This work begins with ourselves. The Board began this work by reading and discussing Bryan Massingale’s article, and examining our own experiences of race, racism and privilege. We continue this work every time we meet. We would like to invite our members to join us in this important work. The resource committee has compiled a number of resources for our members, chapters and caucuses to begin to engage with this material. We have provided introductory materials, materials that live at the intersection of race and sexuality, and resources that live at the intersection of race and spirituality. We have also compiled many movies and documentaries that can be watched and discussed as a community. The resources provided here are extensive, but not exhaustive. The heart of our organization is honoring the Dignity of all; let us work together to dismantle racism and stand in solidarity with the Black community. |
