Using our voice for change: DignityUSA in the media

DignityUSA was featured in two articles in the National Catholic Reporter this week. Both articles reflected Dignity's commitment to bring justice and inclusion to our Church.
Decrying church leaders’ Failure to provide pastoral care for LGBTQI Catholics

An op-ed written by DignityUSA's executive director, Marianne Duddy-Burke and Jeff Stone, DignityUSA's director of media relations, called on Church hierarchy to create a consistent, just, and truly pastoral strategy for meeting the needs of LGBTQI Catholics. Marianne and Jeff's article was inspired by remarks made in a recent radio interview by Cardinal Marx of Munich, Germany.

Demanding representation for our families

The National Catholic Reporter also picked up news of DignityUSA's outcry over the erasure of LGBTQI families in materials for the upcoming World Meeting of Families. "Six images which could have been interpreted, even obliquely, as an LGBT couple or a non-traditional family," the article explains, "have been removed or replaced by non-controversial ones." The article highlights DignityUSA's opposition to this "alarming and sad" setback.

You are Invited: “International Women’s Day Continues All Year Long”

Join DignityUSA, Women’s Ordination Conference (WOC), and the Women’s Alliance for Theology, Ethics, and Ritual (WATER) for a conversation about the March 8th Voices of Faith event in Rome.

The call will be held Friday, March 9, 2018, noon ET, and will be hosted by Mary E. Hunt and Marianne Duddy-Burke. It will open with a debriefing by WOC’s Kate McElwee who will attend the Rome gathering. Constructive conversation on issues related to Catholic women’s leadership and feminist ministry will follow. The call will last one hour.

Voices of Faith (VOF) will feature two speakers whom DignityUSA helped propel onto the international stage: Nicole Sotelo (former DignityUSA intern) and Joanita Warry Ssenfuka (speaker at DignityUSA's 2017 national conference).

Intersex and Catholic? DignityUSA wants to tell your story

Editors of Quarterly Voice (QV), a publication of DignityUSA, are seeking individuals who identify as intersex and/or people who have intersex family members, to tell their story. An upcoming edition of QV will feature the stories about the experience of being intersex and Catholic.

DignityUSA will be participating in a national day of giving for the LGBTQI community, Give Out Day, on April 19th. Give Out Day is a 24-hour fundraising event that raises critically needed funds for non-profits that serve the LGBTQI community.
