Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a day set aside to remember the victims of violence throughout the world who lost their lives at the hands of others because they were living in the gender they identified with, even though it was not the gender they were assigned at birth. Over the last year there have been 286 recorded deaths of transgender people, including 24 in the United States. During this week, and on November 20th in particular, we call on all people throughout the world to open their hearts and minds to understanding, accepting and including persons who are transgender or gender non-conforming, without judgement, prejudice, bigotry and--most importantly--violence. |
