Nickie's Life, Advocacy Highlighted in National Catholic Reporter

In the past few weeks, the nationwide DignityUSA community has been reflecting on the life and legacy of Nickie Valdez, co-founder of Dignity/San Antonio and pillar of our community, who passed away on Christmas Day. Nickie spent her whole life fighting to for LGBTQI inclusion in the Church. Her outreach touched countless lives and decades of activism have laid the groundwork for LGBTQI justice for many years to come.

Upon the news of Nickie's passing, tributes poured in from across the country. Regional and nation press and justice organizations have taken note as well, with new tributes coming from Pax Christi USA, San Antonio Express-News, and the National Catholic Reporter as well. These numerous tributes demonstrate the powerful impact of Nickie's life and work.

New details on Nickie's final arrangements are now available. Porter Loring Mortuaries in San Antonio will be hosting her Rosary on Sunday, January 10th at 8pm Eastern (7pm Central, 6pm Mountain, and 5pm Pacific) and will be live streamed here. Nickie's funeral will be occurring at the Oblate School of Theology Chapel in San Antonio on Monday, January 11th at 2pm Eastern (1pm Central, 12pm Mountain, 11am Pacific) and will be live streamed here.
