Outreach to transgender Catholics at 4 regional conferences. Rich retreat for Young Adult members that drew international interest. Helped generate over 260,000 comments protesting US Department of Health and Human Services proposed policies the would allow health care workers to deny treatment to transgender/gay people due to “moral or religious beliefs.” Supported over a dozen terminated church workers fired for their identities, for marrying a same-sex spouse, or even for “liking” an LGBT-positive Facebook post to access legal support, rally communities, or negotiate for severance. The only organization to have visible representation of LGBTQI people at World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin. Assembled a diverse team of 7 pilgrims currently preparing to represent us at World Youth Day 2019 in Panama City. DignityUSA Board and staff members have visited 16 of our Chapters over the course of the year. Had a visible presence in witnesses to protest Catholic Charities of Buffalo’s ending its foster/adoption program rather than place children with queer prospective parents, and to ensure equal access to other programs. Led in addressing the burning of a rainbow flag at a church in Chicago. Engaged members and communities across the country in three-phase Jubilee process, recalling our roots, taking stock of our present, dreaming our future. Provided counsel to LGBTI Catholic groups in Mexico in their successful effort to initiate a national network. Provided mechanisms for LGBTQI young adults to tell the Vatican what they expect and need in advance of the Synod on Youth through co-sponsorship of Equal Future 2018. Ongoing thought leadership on issues of importance to LGBTQI Catholic community in queer, Catholic and mainstream media in US and internationally. Represented LGBTQI Catholics at key national gatherings including Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Association of US Catholic Priests, Call To Action.
