From the Board
So, you have read the messages in previous months about the DignityUSA Board of Directors, and now you are ready to ‘jump in’ to the creation of a new pool of candidates willing to serve our DignityUSA movement. You are a current, paid-up member of DignityUSA, right? Well, perhaps you need more information about DignityUSA board responsibilities. Then check out the home page of DignityUSA and look for a link to all the information you will need. Pray over what you find, talk with your spouse, a good friend, current or past board member(s), and/or your local Dignity community. Then when you are ready, return to that same link where you will find the Nominations form. Just complete and send it along with a picture of yourself you like!
Perhaps you have decided that this isn’t the right time for you, but you have thought about one or more individuals whom you think would be great assets to the board in HR/business, communications, finance, fundraising, and/or marketing. Now is the time to approach them. What is there to be lost? You get to bring attention to the gifts you see in another. That is just extending a blessing! Or perhaps you think someone who is trans, or from the West or the South, or from a minority culture, would add a deeper dimension to the board’s work. Now you know that the nomination materials are on the DignityUSA website home page. Just let them know how easy it is to access everything they will need. Whoever you approach, promise them your prayerful support.
Do not think you are excluded if you are an online member of DignityUSA and have only met others on Queer Catholic Faith or in a DUSA electronic chat. The Nominations Committee will be happy to contact someone for you if you provide your appreciation of them and a way for them to get back to you. Simply send those recommendations to the Nominations Committee chair, Marie Sweeney. Please do this only if you don’t know how to find these folks. Otherwise, direct them to the website.
Perhaps you are a relatively new member of DignityUSA and really do not know many people. Perhaps you are committed, heart and soul, to DignityUSA, as you have been for many years, but just cannot come up with anyone right now. We need the entire Dignity Community to pray for all who might be considering this call to service. We ask you to pray in your private prayer, and at liturgy, for the Spirit’s direction of individuals and of the whole Dignity movement. We are at our core a faith community that trusts in the Holy Spirit’s constant presence. Throughout this process, we ask for her direction, courage, humility, and compassion.
