DignityUSA Members Featured in Avatar Films' Saints
and Sinners
To Dignity Members and Friends:
April
5, 2004 — Thanks to Dignity/New York, we've just received
this information.
We've just received some exciting news. An independent feature film called
Saints and Sinners has been made about the wedding of Edward DeBonis
and Vincent Maniscalco. Ed and Vinnie are members of Dignity/New
York and the first Catholic same-sex couple ever to have their union
ceremony announced in The New York Times. The role of Dignity
in their lives, and in their wedding, is prominently featured in the movie.
Remarkably, the film has been picked up for commercial distribution by
Avatar Films and will premiere on June 18 in New York, Los Angeles, and
San Francisco. The New York premiere will be at the Quad Cinema
at 34 West 13th Street. The film will also be shown in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, with a date to be determined. Other cities may be added
if the film does well in the initial cities.
In addition, the film will be shown at the Boston LGBT film festival,
co-presented by Dignity/Boston
and the Human Rights Campaign,
on May 15, just two days before same-sex civil weddings are scheduled
to begin in Massachusetts.
It will also be shown at the New Festival (New York LGBT Film Festival)
sometime between June 3 and June 8, and on June 12 at 9:15 p.m. at the
Human Rights Watch International Film Festival at Lincoln Center in New
York.
Dignity/New York may be participating in a formal way in the premiere
at the Quad and/or the Human Rights Watch festival. More information
will be posted as it is confirmed.
For more information about the film, visit www.avatarfilms.com.
Avatar is the distributor of Niko and Dani, Kandahar, and other notable
independent films.
See you at the movies!
