Happy Anniversary & Congratulations

DignityUSA Treasurer Change

Philippe Lachance, elected by your national Board of Directors as our treasurer beginning October 1, 2003, has had to resign his position on the board.

Just as he was getting up to speed as our treasurer, his full time employment unexpectedly changed requiring him to work many long hours.

Phil would have to start his Dignity duties after working a ten-plus-hour day and driving home. This all proved too much.

We are sad to see him resign his position, but are happy that he will continue to support our organization in other ways. We are grateful for the generous gifts of his time, talent and treasure to DignityUSA.

We are happy to introduce our new treasurer, Joseph Giordano.

Joseph is a member of Dignity/Dallas, although he currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida. He has been a member of Dignity for 15 years, having served on the Board for the New England Region and later as President of the Dallas Chapter.

When informed of the unanimous vote of the National Board of Directors as treasurer, Joseph said, "I'm glad to be able to take on this new responsibility for DignityUSA."

Joseph took on his new role effective December 8, 2003.

Sam Sinnett, National President, says, ÒI know you all join me in thanking Phil for his work and wishing him well, and welcoming Joseph as he takes on this new responsibility. DignityUSA is so blessed to have such wonderful and dedicated volunteers!Ó

Strategic Plan in Progress

Now that the DignityUSA National Board has identified the key components of its strategic plan for Dignity as an organization, it is attempting to identify who is primarily responsible for carrying out these components. Included in this process is a review of existing committees, deciding which ones should continue, because their function supports the plan, and which should be disbanded because they do not. The process is also meant to identify new committees needed for new work.

Once the structure has been decided, each committee will be asked to submit its own strategic plan to support the overall plan of the organization. This will include identifying its mandate, strategies and activities to carry out that mandate, target deadlines, and responsible parties.

The National Board hopes to discuss the preliminary plans during its January teleconference, with final approval expected at the April meeting in Washington, DC.

Although its final plans are not yet complete, each committee will continue with work previously assigned.

The Board also hopes to broaden the membership of the DignityUSA standing committees beyond the Board to include other Dignity members. Anyone interested in exploring whether there might be a place for you on these committees is invited to contact Vice-President Peggy Burns at VicePresident-@dignityusa.org.
