San Antonio & Buffalo Poised for Conferences

DignityUSA is moving forward with plans for the first two regional conferences for 2002.

"We Shall Not Be Silent: Conferences for GLBT Catholics, our Families, Friends and Supporters sponsored by DignityUSA"

April 12-14, Crockett Hotel, San Antonio, TX
Keynote Speaker: Sister Jeannine Gramick, SL

May 24-26, Hyatt Hotel, Buffalo, NY
Keynote Speaker: Edwina Gately

Each conference will offer opportunities for prayer, education, networking, as well as the chance to dialogue with leaders of DignityUSA. For detailed information, visit our website at DignityUSA.org/regional2002.html.

If you’re a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered (GLBT) Catholic, or love someone who is, these conferences are for you!

If you’re concerned about achieving full inclusion in our Church, these conferences are for you!

If you know that the Catholic Church can do more to provide appropriate pastoral care to gay Catholics and their families, these conferences are for you!

If you’ve ever wondered, "What can I do to make the Church a better place for everyone," these conferences are for you!

Come, pray, learn, and discuss your experiences with others who share your joys and concerns.

Plan now to attend. These will be great opportunities for the Dignity family to gather and embrace our future together as family.

Members of the National Board of Directors will be in attendance at both conferences and look forward to the opportunity to realize the re-imagined Dignity with all who come to San Antonio and Buffalo.

San Antonio Workshops:

Life and Ministry of John McNeill

On Friday, February 8, the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, hosted a public panel discussion of John McNeill's life and ministry in celebration of the John J. McNeill Gay and Lesbian Liberation Archives which have recently been donated to CLGS. Sr. Jeannine Gramick was one of the participants in that panel discussion.

The Center hosted at the dean’s house (on Thursday, February 7) a smaller "by-invitation" fund-raising cocktail party with John to help raise money for cataloguing and publicizing the archive.

Tom Kaun, former DignityUSA director, attended the Thursday reception in behalf of DignityUSA. Also in attendance were Rev. Jim Schexnayder, founder and resource director of NACDLGM, as well as several others who have had a connection with Dignity over the years.

Several linear feet of John’s papers were donated including his correspondence with the Vatican. His papers will be made available to the public in approx 6 months on-line.

Chapter’s Corner

In honor of Dignity/Chicago's annual celebration of couples, which the chapter celebrates in February, they sponsored a workshop for same-sex couples and followed by a couples' blessing.

Calling all chapters

Send all noteworthy information regarding your chapter activities and we will highlight them here in the Dateline. You may email your newsworthy notes to the Dateline editor at ptmcarron@cox.net

"Building Intimate Relationships:A Workshop for Same-Sex Couples" was led by psychotherapist Bruce Koff, LCSW, who presented a very well-received workshop at our Chicago convention. In a news release inviting the public to the workshop and couples' blessing, James Cappleman, a member of Dignity/Chicago's Leadership and Advocacy committee said, "Part of Dignity's mission is to witness to our belief that we gay men, lesbians and bisexuals can express our sexuality in a manner consonant with Christ's teaching and that our relationships are loving, life-giving, and life-affirming. Giving this blessing makes an important statement about our relationships not only to the Church and society, but to our own communities as well."

Congratulations to Dignity/Chicago and to all our Chapters who fulfill Dignity's unique mission by providing spiritual support to same-sex couples.

DignityUSA Hartford chapter was recently invited to present testimony in support of a same-sex marriage bill now in the Connecticut legislature. Read into the record was also a statement from DignityUSA. Congrats to the Hartford Chapter for responding to the call to be a formidable voice.

Happy Anniversary to: Dignity/Cincinnati — 29 years of service
