DignityUSA 2003 National Convention

Alexis Park Resort Las Vegas, Nevada August 7-10, 2003

In the past 34 years, we began with "Many Gifts and One Spirit" where we "Celebrated a Living Church." We then "Celebrated Diversity to Challenge a New Tomorrow" and were "Called to Be Prophets to the World." Because we are "People of Hope," we were "Purified by Fire and Our Spirit was Renewed." Now "A Voice in the Desert" calls. The journey continues and you have been empowered to answer the call.

Join us August 7-10, 2003 for the DignityUSA 16th Biennial Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can listen to nationally-known speakers, attend exciting workshops, participate in liturgies and renew friendships with family and friends.

Liturgies

Just as the Voice in the Desert is calling you to Las Vegas for Convention 2003, the liturgies will reflect the theme by calling the Spirit, hearing the voice, learning from the voice and becoming the voice. The liturgies will empower you to maintain your Catholic identity. There are several liturgies planned for the convention as well as several early morning worship services.

Leadership Conference

Join us on Thursday, August 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Alexis Park Resort for an imaginative, innovative and very effective approach to improving leadership skills. This is a way you can learn new ways to get Dignity members fired up and energized. This is an opportunity for you to learn new skills and sharpen your existing ones—and have more fun than grown-ups are used to having.

Remember, this is brain training for exceptional Dignity leadership! And it's FREE to all who are currently involved in leadership at the chapter or national level!

Keynote Speaker

Richard SipeDignityUSA is pleased to announce that Richard Sipe will be the Keynote Speaker for our 2003 convention. Sipe is a former Benedictine monk and priest who has done extensive research on the institution and practice of priestly celibacy. He is the author of Sex, Priests, and Power: Anatomy of a Crisis; A Secret World: Sexuality and the Search for Celibacy; Celibacy: A Way of Loving, Living and Serving; Psychiatry, Ministry and Pastoral Counseling; and Hope: Psychiatry's Commitment. His expertise on the subject of priestly sexuality will be both timely regarding current Church issues and thought-provoking as we make our spiritual journey in the desert.

  • Genevieve Chavez, Executive Director, Women's Ordination Conference
  • Oliva Espin, PhD, professor of Women's Studies at San Diego State University
  • Brendan Fay, who will conduct a workshop on the Fr. Mychael Judge PBS documentary.
  • Chellie Griffin, DignityUSA Director, out transexual and lesbian, grandmother and Texas political activist
  • Joanna Manning, author of Is the Pope Catholic?
  • John McNeill, author of Both Feet Firmly Planted in Midair
  • David Tseng, Executive Director PFLAG.

Midnight at the Oasis

You've traveled long and far in the desert, you've heard the voice, your throat is parched—you need a rest. Well, park your camel and prepare to boogie down on Saturday, August 9, at 6:30 p.m. for DignityUSA's Convention 2003 Dinner/Dance.

All caravans lead to palm trees, watering holes and the sounds of the 70s. Dress code is desert casual to formal. Or, you can become the Sultan of Chic, an Arabian princess or the Caliph of Baghdad. This is a time to celebrate our 16th Biennial Convention. Remember when you watched "I Dream of Jeannie?" Well, your chance of fulfilling that dream has arrived. So, sheik, rattle and roll! Join us until Midnight at the Oasis.
