We Are All Nuns

DignityUSA is a founding member of the NunJustice.org Coalition, founded by Catholics who wanted to support women religious in the U.S. in the face of a Vatican crackdown on the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). Dignity members and Chapters across the US participated in a series of vigils held across the country as LCWR gathered in St. Louis in August 2012 to discern their response to the investigation. Watch a video compilation of some of these vigils here.

Gay Catholic Leaders Applaud Priest’s Removal from Ministry, Repeat Calls for Dialogue with Church Leaders

March 10, 2012. DignityUSA and Dignity/Washington, DC today applauded the Archdiocese of Washington, DC for suspending Father Marcel Guarnizo from all ministry within the Archdiocese. In a letter to priests, Vicar General Barry C. Knestout cited “intimidating behavior toward parish staff and others that is incompatible with proper priestly ministry” as the reason for the suspension. Father Guarnizo recently refused Communion to Barbara Johnson during her mother’s funeral because she is a lesbian.

Equally Blessed praises O’Malley, says all God’s children must be treated with respect

 MARCH 1—Equally Blessed, a coalition of Catholic groups that support equality for LGBT people in the church and wider society, released this statement today on the signing of marriage equality legislation in the state of Maryland:

"We are deeply gratified that Governor Martin O’Malley has joined fellow Catholic governors Andrew Cuomo of New York and Christine Gregoire of Washington in signing marriage equality legislation into law.
