DignityUSA, 1985
WHEREAS, DIGNITY, an organization of Gay and Lesbian Roman Catholics and their friends, has always upheld a Statement of Position and Purpose which calls for the exercise of sexuality in an ethically responsible manner between consenting adults; and
WHEREAS, the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) is an organization formed solely for and dedicated to the promotion of sexual relationships existing between minors and adults; and
WHEREAS, NAMBLA actively promotes relationships based upon inequality — sexually, financially, emotionally, and intellectually — and in which coercion and exploitation can be exercised on children during their most impressionable and formative years; and
WHEREAS, we, the members of DIGNITY, believe it is imperative to maintain an age of consent in order to exercise one's sexuality in an ethically responsible manner; further, we believe that children, during their formative years, should be free from undo sexual influence of a heterosexual or homosexual nature; therefore be it KNOWN, that DIGNITY has not, does not and will not condone NAMBLA or any organization which fails to recognize the rights of a child to grow up in a free and unencumbered atmosphere, an atmosphere wherein he or she can come to realize the full beauty and freedom of God's gift of sexuality.
